Something caught my eye in an email from ASQ Weekly that said "Quality is Happiness". It said that recent surveys and polls have been released that state quality professionals are happy with their jobs. Most notably, Forbes released survey results of the top 20 happiest jobs in America that ranked Software Quality Engineer as number one happiest job for 2012. The survey was based on 10 workplace happiness factors that included everything from workplace relationships with coworkers and bosses to compensation and benefits. The article points out that because we spend such a large part of our lives at our jobs, workplace happiness plays a large factor on overall happiness. So, quality professionals, are you happy with your jobs?
What factors can you influence to make your workplace a happier place to be for yourself and those you work with? I believe our own happiness is within our control, so think about what will make you happy and take the necessary steps to make it happen. The program year is under way and the board members have been working hard to line up some great tours and conferences for all of us. The first program meeting was supposed to be a tour of WFRV TV station in Green Bay but unfortunately there was a last minute cancellation from the TV station and the tour was cancelled. The dinner meeting was still held. We apologize to everyone that was signed up for the tour. The cancellation was beyond our control and there was not enough time to schedule a different tour. Thanks for being so understanding.
The October program meeting is going to be a tour of Mercury Marine in Fond du Lac followed by a dinner meeting at the Holiday Inn. A lot of changes have been happening at Mercury in the last couple of years as they have moved the inboard manufacturing to the Fond du Lac facility. It should be a great tour, which will be followed up by a presentation on Extreme Reliability from one of our own board members, Dave Jorgensen. Registration is open on the Section website until October 1st. I hope to see you at the October meeting!
