Recertifying? |
| Please don't forget to sign the form, attach payment or credit card info and include a letter verifying RU's (recertification units) for employment. These things are commonly forgotten and cause delays in processing. Note: If you are including a certificate for internal training provided by your company, please make sure the number of contact hours is indicated on the certificate.
Recertification journals should be sent to:
Dave Jorgensen
PO Box 1901
Fond du Lac, WI 54936-1901
If you choose to use certified mail, processing of your recertification journal will be delayed. Please use regular mail and be sure to keep copies for your records. |

Message from the Chair |

Networking - most members say they want more of it, but what should they expect? I am no expert at networking, but one thing we can look for is to find others with similar interests so we can exchange a few words regarding each other's beliefs about Quality and business. When we are able to network we can discuss issues from our life experiences and from theories we have learned, but have not been able to apply. It is a way to establish a friendship around our specific interests.
So where do you go to get this networking? First, our section has networking opportunities at many program events - bring your business cards and ask other member's opinion on Quality initiatives you have planned. Second, the main ASQ website offers links to online networking groups for a variety of areas, such as applying Quality, using Quality in your field, making a difference, and maintaining conference connections. A third way is to use your Winnebago Section #1206 Membership Directory to renew a contact with a member that has a certification in your area of interest or a related industry.
I know that someone will point out that the directory is out of date. Yes it is and the board is struggling with that issue right now. We want to have it available to the members, but the cost of printing and postage is a current budget issue. An electronic list of members with email addresses that are not active links is also an alternative we are studying. Federal privacy issues are also a concern. If you have a strong opinion about an electronic member list being available off of our Section website, please send me an e-mail at n4417joc-asq1206chair@yahoo.com.
Online networks established by ASQ include: Economic Case for Quality; Innovation; Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX); Baldrige for Education; Baldrige for Healthcare; Environmental Microbiology; Insurance Industry; Community Good Works; Quality Supports and Services for Persons with Disabilities; Six Sigma Conference; and National Quality Education Conference.

LEARN ABOUT QUALITY
This Month's Topic: Lean |
Lean is an initiative focused on eliminating all waste from processes through continuous improvement. Waste is any activity that consumes resources, but creates no value for the customer.
Types of waste include:
- Overproduction
- Unnecessary inventory
- Defective product (scrap and rework)
- Overprocessing
- Waiting
- Unnecessary motion
- Excess transportation
- Underutilized people
- Inappropriate systems
- Wasted utility resources
|
Lean helps reduce the costs, cycle times, and customer dissatisfaction caused by waste, making organizations more competitive. As a manufacturing philosophy, lean reduces the time occurring between order placement and shipment. Applied to business processes, lean thinking reduces cycle times and streamlines processes by removing non-value-added steps.
Benefits of lean include reduced lead time, optimized space usage, increased productivity, improved product quality and improved on-time shipments. |
